The Mofo Trio
For the two years local guitarist James Dorland, keyboardist Zach Weil and drummer Christopher Dardick have anchored a Sudbury's only jazz house gig the Wednesday night dinner jazz show at the 1500 Pub, a.k.a. Culpeppers restaurant.
A lack of available bass players on the Wednesday evening has been the mother of invention for the trio, with Dorland and Weil stretching to cover the bottom end while trading off the progressions and melodies.
In the process Dorland resorted to utilizing a digital pedal to transform his guitar into a bass, coining the resultant mutation "The Batar".
The group consequently has defined a sound of their own, and is excited to share their homegrown approach this year at the festival with a personally selected set of jazz standards.
